Security is the Main Advantage of a Shipping Container
The extra security features we add to our shipping containers are what make them BigSteelBoxes.
All shipping containers need to meet rigorous standards to be approved for ocean transport. This means they will stand up to the harsh weather on the open oceans, and the rigorous handling in the ports and on the ships. They can be transported by truck, train or ship and they can pulled, dragged or lifted into place.
Our new BigSteelBoxes are manufactured in China and are used once for shipping goods on their way to Canada. We refer to these as "one-trip containers".
Most shipping containers are pretty similar, but because BigSteelBox is constantly ordering new containers, we're always looking for ways to improve their features to make them easier to use for our customers. Here are some of the features that help transform a shipping container into a BigSteelBox.
D-Ring Hooks Every 4 Feet
We install D-Rings at the tops and bottoms of the interior walls every 4 feet along the length of the BigSteelBox. This serves two purposes. First, it makes it easy to install our shelf brackets. With the brackets in place, all you need to do is add 2" X 10" boards to make yourself a sturdy shelf.
Secondly, the D-Rings can be used as tie-down points for securing items for transport during a move. The D-Rings are installed in all our new shipping containers, which cover the 8', 10', 20' and 40' BigSteelBoxes.
Steel Lock Box
One of the strongest security features of each of our new rental containers is the Lock Box. This heavy steel shield protects your padlock from bolt-cutters. The Lock Box surrounds the padlock so that it cannot be accessed. Many shipping containers do not include this feature which leaves the padlock exposed.
Heavy Duty Rubber Gaskets on Doors
Many shipping containers will only have rubber gaskets along the inside of the door, which can allow moisture inside if there is any ripping or tearing of the rubber. BigSteelBoxes have rubber gaskets along both sides of the doors, which creates a water-tight seal. This may seem like a small thing, but it gives the gasket a longer life and ensures the protection of the contents in all types of weather.
The doors of a BigSteelBox also feature double-handled locking arms with hooking mechanisms at the top and bottom. When the locking arms are closed, enough pressure is applied to the gaskets to create a completely waterproof seal around the doors.
